No Tweets At #RoyalWedding

Tomorrow is the big day for the British royal couple, William and Kate, but don’t expect to see anyone tweeting live from Westminster Abbey.

Despite the #royalwedding trending on today and the couple naturally embracing the online world via partnerships with Youtube, a Facebook page, FlickR account and two verified Twitter accounts (Clarence House and The British Monarchy); which all go to make this wedding “the first of the Internet age, where for the first time in thousands of years of royal history, the moment will be captured online and preserved forever”, Yahoo report that the event organizers have installed signal blocking technology at Westminster Abbey.

Their report said:

“The move was suggested by senior members of the royal family and approved by police and security personnel over the last few days, and also met with the approval of television broadcasters keen to avoid any unfortunate sightings of guests on their phones — or even untimely ringtones disrupting the service.

A police official confirmed to Yahoo! on Wednesday that the blocking technology will be in place from early Friday morning and will remain switched on for the entirety of the ceremony.”

Let’s face it, it would be pretty lame if guests were tweeting at your own wedding. But if that’s how you like your news delivered then be sure to follow BBC Royal Wedding whose American counterparts will also be live blogging the wedding from 3am EST (presumably from outside the abbey). Both of which, media coverage wise, also have to be a first in “thousands of years of royal history”, surely?
