Google Doodle Remembers Hungarian Revolution

March 15 is Hungarian National Day. The recent African and Middle Eastern revolutionary movements mirror Hungarian history as Google Hungary reminds us in its Doodle today, celebrating the Hungarian Revolution of 1848.

This isn’t Google’s first logo commemorating Hungarian National Day. Last year, Google Hungary’s Doodle transformed the second, lower-case “g” into a red, white and green cockade. However they made a mistake in the order of the colors, deviating from the cockade that was worn during the revolution. This year, they used the red, white and green in the columns of an image of the Hungarian National museum, with the Google letters in red, yellow and green intertwined around the columns.

Similar to how the recent revolution in Egypt spawned movements in other African and Middle Eastern nations, the Kingdom of Hungary revolution of 1848 gave birth to other uprisings of the Habsburg Austrian Empire including Austria, Germany, and many other Eastern European nations.
